Here are some tips to help achieve the best possible portraits:
- Keep it simple. Solid colors are best in portraits. Avoid large, bold patterns and bright colors that draw attention away from your face.
- Accentuate the positive in portraits. Darker clothing slims. Light tones tend to emphasize body size.
- Frame your face. Scoops or V-necks flatter shorter necks and full faces. Turtlenecks or high- necked garments flatter longer necks and slender faces.
- Keep clothing consistent. Dress everyone in the same style. Don't mix casual and formal clothing in portraits. Ladies, please keep the make-up and jewelry to a bare minimum. A lipstick and bit of blush would be fine.
- Wear clothes which fit you properly. Loose and baggy clothes make you look bigger and bulkier in photographs.
- For the men, it would be good idea to shave and trim your beards and mustaches. If you are planning to have a haircut, have it a week or 2 before your Key West photography session.
- Cover up arms. Long sleeves draw attention away from your arms and helps bring the focus to your face. The above point relates to legs as well. Women who are going to be photographed from head to toe, it is advisable to wear long skirts or pants. Bare legs can overpower the face.
- Don't forget the bottom half. Our Key West Photographer may suggest a full- length pose. Make sure you coordinate portrait clothing from head to toe.
- Whatever you wear, just ensure that you are totally comfortable in it. This is more important in the cases of babies and children.
